Controller

Blue Basin Group

Blue Basin Group owns, manages, and develops high-quality commercial, and multi residential properties in the HRM and is part of an associated group of companies operating under one Owner. We are currently seeking a Controller on a part- to full-time basis. Reporting directly to the Owner, the Controller will be part of the senior leadership team for these companies proactively taking on both financial and high-level planning responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing the accounting and finance function
  • Budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis
  • Financial planning for real estate developments
  • Managing the organizations’ tax liability
  • Understanding, implementing and monitoring an adequate control environment
  • Reading, understanding and fulfilling requirements of various types of contracts pertaining to leases and construction
  • Liaising with consultants and project managers on behalf of the owner
  • Daily accounting using QuickBooks
  • Month end reconciliations and reporting
  • Administrative tasks on behalf of the owner

Key Requirements:

  • 5 to 10 years’ experience in a similar, senior level leadership role
  • 3 years in a Controller position is an asset
  • Strong technical accounting skills
  • Self-driven, proactive problem solver who thrives in a deadline driven environment
  • Previous experience working in construction industry is an asset
  • Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, as well as, on a team
  • Detail oriented individual with strong organizational skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Time management skills with ability to meet deadlines
